HOW THE SIGNS PREPARE FOR BIRTH

There is no right or wrong when it comes to your approach to pregnancy and birth, everyone is different and wants their unique version of a positive experience. I’m not a qualified astrologer by any means, but I know a little bit and decided to have some fun compiling profiles of all the signs and their approaches to birth preparation. Have a look at your big three (sun, moon and rising) signs and if you feel called out let me know and let’s have a giggle together.

Aries

As brave go-getters, you take the initiative to book an antenatal class, ask the tough questions and set boundaries with ease. You don’t leave things to chance; you read all the baby books and watch every type of birth video you can find to prepare yourself for what’s to come. Taking charge of your birth experience comes naturally to you and you do whatever you can to prevent your insecurities from getting the better of you.

Taurus

As a fixed sign, change doesn’t always come easily to you, but you are determined and focused when it comes to achieving your goals. You build up consistent daily habits like perineal massage, pregnancy exercises and reciting your birth affirmations. Aesthetics are important to you, so setting up your birth environment for relaxation and nesting are fun activities, and thinking about that extravagant push present is all the birth motivation you need.

Gemini

Going with the flow and being adaptable means that rigid birth plans were never your vibe, you know that birth can be unpredictable and focus on researching your options and preferences instead. You’re open minded to a variety of birth types and love documenting your pregnancy journey through journaling. Writing and communication are your superpowers, so you bond with your unborn baby by writing them letters to read when they’re older.

Cancer

You’re a sensitive soul, naturally nurturing and in tune with your emotions. This self-awareness serves you well during pregnancy, but it can be a struggle to articulate those feelings to your birth team. You love winding down with a relaxing hypnosis track, finding new ways to bond with your baby and indulging in self-care practices. You’re always exploring new holistic ways to manage stress and protect your energy.

Leo

You understand the value of community and see birth as a collaborative event. You’ve joined all the pregnancy Facebook groups, sharing your controversial takes and finding your mum tribe. You know what you want when it comes to birth and you’re determined to make it happen. Ever the life and soul of the party, you’ll be dancing through those early contractions, and will know the names of every staff member in the hospital/birth centre.

Virgo

You understand the power in the little details and leave no stone unturned when it comes to planning your birth, filling out your pregnancy planner every day brings you so much joy. You take a proactive approach to improving your health and preparing your body for birth. You’re not afraid to speak your mind and advocate for yourself. You have a postpartum plan and make the effort to get on the same page with your partner about your wants and needs during that fourth trimester.

Libra

Balance is important to you and you know that you don’t want to do it all alone. You hire a doula for continuity of care, and you’re not afraid to delegate responsibilities to your birth partner. You’ve heard the horror stories and you’re determined to speak up if you feel like you’re being mistreated by your care team. You’re likely to start a campaign about improving birth outcomes, advocating for the rights of others, and fixing structural issues within the NHS, as a true SJW.

Scorpio

You’re not afraid to dig deep into your subconscious beliefs and fears about birth and motherhood, so hypnobirthing seems like a perfect fit. You love the more spiritual approaches to birth, understanding how much motherhood can be a transformative experience mind, body and soul. You have a closing the bones ceremony already booked for your fourth trimester and as a problem solver, you’ve considered all eventualities in labour.

Sagittarius

You see birth as an adventure and you’re willing to stay open minded and try out all the holistic remedies and birth prep habits. Your hospital bag is packed for every possible outcome and you have your midwife on speed dial, messaging them with every query and after every Google spiral. You’re excited about giving birth, seeing it as a rite of passage, and you’re determined to not let anyone rain on your parade.

Capricorn

Structure has always served you well and you have tunnel vision when it comes to achieving a positive birth experience. You have birth plan A, B and C typed up in advance and you’ve printed multiple copies to ensure that everyone in your team understands your vision. You practice your breathwork techniques religiously and have tried all the positions and exercises on the Spinning Babies website.

Aquarius

You like to think outside of the box when it comes to birth and you spend your days watching videos about non-traditional approaches like dolphin-assisted birth. You’re clear on what you want from the experience and you’re not easily swayed. As a natural rule breaker, you question all protocols and look for the loopholes. You visualise your birth daily and challenge your pregnant friends to expand their perspective.

Pisces

You’re the one in the group chat forever decoding your wild pregnancy dreams and planning out all the activities you want to do with your new baby from baby massage and yoga, to water babies. Empathy is your superpower and with all the pregnancy hormones, watching adverts can result in a deep crying session. Having a water birth is a given and you care about the energetics of birth and getting the vibe right. Ever the dreamer, you love a good visualisation practice.
