Common Questions

Hypnobirthing

  • Hypnobirthing is a relatively new term, first used by Marie Mongan in 1989.

The prefix ‘hypno’ refers to the self hypnosis and relaxation techniques we use to calm your body and tackle the negative preconceptions about birth embedded in your subconscious mind.

The ‘birthing’ part talks about the practical, evidence-based information we provide to prepare you for the physical and hormonal changes your body will experience during labour.

  • Hypnobirthing has been proven to have a profound influence on birthing outcomes including; reduced rates of intervention, induction, epidurals, instrumental births, and caesarean births.

The techniques help to quiet that anxious, fearful voice in your head that makes an appearance when you think about birthing your baby. The information allows you to make informed decisions about your care and thus improves your overall experience.

  • I usually work with clients who are at least 20 weeks into their pregnancy, so that they have time to expand their knowledge without becoming overwhelmed.

  • A positive birth experience can happen in any birthplace and with any type of birth. Hypnobirthing provides you with the tools to adapt your birth ideal to any eventuality.

  • The Intuitive Journey’s Signature Hypnobirthing Course features four zoom sessions with a week apart, so that you have the time to build a deep understanding of all things birth and integrate the lessons learned during the homework done between sessions. It is the most comprehensive birth preparation course I offer and it can be personalised to your unique needs and interests.

The Essence of Hypnobirthing masterclass is a one-off 2.5hr zoom session jam packed with knowledge to help you have the birth experience you really want. It is a condensed version of the signature course, with less detail, less supplementary information and no gift pack. It is great for those who are short on time or need to refresh their hypnobirthing knowledge.

Talk To Me Nice: How Words Can Transform Your Birth is a one hour long affirmation workshop that explores how the language we use and the mental stories we carry can sabotage our birth experience. It offers a taste of what a hypnobirthing course would be like and teaches you how to use affirmations to elevate your mindset going into labour.

Mindful Breastfeeding

  • The concept of a mindful breastfeeding course is all about how mindfulness and holistic practices can help to improve your breastfeeding experience. It blends science-backed techniques with practical information about how to get the perfect latch and take care of yourself during your feeding journey.

Most postnatal and breastfeeding resources focus solely on the baby, but it’s clear that when the feeding parent is nurtured and given the resources, support and information to look after themselves, both mum and baby thrive. You cannot pour from an empty cup.

  • Breastfeeding may be something our bodies were designed to do, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not challenging.

The fourth trimester can be such an overwhelming time full of change; having someone to talk to, signpost useful resources and give you the techniques and adjustments you need to remedy any feeding struggles can be a much needed lifeline.

Recognising that you need support, choosing to find it and taking steps to prepare for breastfeeding can lead to:

    • Better breastfeeding outcomes.

    • Earlier detection and a reduced chance of mental health struggles.

    • Feeling less alone and adding someone to your village of support.

    • More easeful feeds.

    • The flexibility to breastfeed on your terms for as long as YOU want to, rather than stopping early because you felt you had to.

    • Increased confidence in your ability to advocate for yourself and trust that your body and baby know what to do.

  • I usually work with antenatal clients who are at least 20 weeks into their pregnancy, so that they have time to expand their knowledge without becoming overwhelmed.

The ideal time for postnatal support is within the first 6 weeks of starting your breastfeeding journey, as this tends be the season mums find the most challenging while their supply is being established.

However, my Mindful Baby course will prove useful for breastfeeding mums at any stage of their journey, if things are feeling difficult.

  • Taking control of your feeding journey and planning for your postpartum experience in advance will work wonders for your confidence and help to ease your transition into learning a new skill.

It will give you more realistic expectations of what to expect, so that you don’t give up on your breastfeeding goals prematurely or internalise misinformation.

It can provide you with the knowledge to prepare physically for feeding by harvesting colostrum and give you the time and space to do your research, ask questions and figure out your options while you have more free time, taking the pressure off.

  • The Mindful Breastfeeding Antenatal Classes are the most comprehensive feeding preparation classes I offer. They are delivered on zoom over 3 weeks and each last around 2hrs. We will explore everything you need to know about breastfeeding to increase your chances of long term feeding success, while also delving into how your emotional wellbeing can contribute to your feeding struggles and how to remedy that.

Mindful Baby is my postnatal latch support and wellbeing programme that offers real-time guidance to help you get a deeper latch and more comfortable feed, while we deep dive on a different topic every week to help you connect with yourself and your baby during those crucial first 6 weeks. Each session is roughly 1.5hrs long on zoom.

Mindful Breastfeeding 101 is my short course that provides a brief version of the information in my antenatal classes delivered in one intensive 3hr session. It is great for pregnant mums short on time or birthing parents who need to refresh their knowledge of breastfeeding before their next baby arrives.
